Silent Killers, Covid 19 vs Outdoor Air Pollution

Covid a Silent Killer:

In the year 2021 Around 1.31 million people have been infected around the world. There have been a total of 28,972 deaths.

There could be no signs or symptoms in your patients. They might not even notice a difference. They could also develop headaches or nosebleeds without ever realising it.

What is coronavirus ?

Coronaviruses are a type of virus that can cause respiratory problems in people. Because of the crown-like spikes on the virus’s surface, they’re known as “corona.”

How many people are infected with COVID-19 ?

In the year 2021 Around 1.31 million people have been infected around the world. There have been a total of 28,972 deaths. COVID-19 has already been reported in 192 countries and territories across the globe.

How do you get infected with COVID-19 ?

COVID-19 silently enters the body via the mouth, nose, or eyes (directly from the airborne droplets or from transfer of the virus from your hands to your face). The virus spreads from your mouth to the back of your throat. It binds to the cells there, multiplies, and spreads into the lung tissue. The virus can then spread to other body tissues.

What are the symptoms ?

Incubation periods (the time between becoming infected and developing symptoms) can range from 2 to 14 days. The severity of the symptoms varies, and you can’t always tell if it’s a covid episode.

Is it possible to test negative for COVID-19 and still be infected with the virus ?

Even if you test negative, there’s a chance you’re infected with a virus. “False negative” test results can occur for a variety of reasons:

  • You were tested too soon after you became ill.
  • Hospital didn’t acquire a really good specimen.
  • The COVID-19 test was insufficiently sensitive and specific to identify COVID-19.

Site of infection:

Experts suggest that while the virus appears to target the lungs, it may also be able to infect cells in the gastrointestinal system. There is also a possibility for the virus to enter the bloodstream. Organs include the liver, heart, and kidneys, as well as bone marrow, can become inflamed. Inflammation of tiny blood vessels is seen in many cases. “The virus will land on organs like the heart, kidneys, and liver, and may cause direct damage to those organs.

Is Out-door Air Pollution More Silent ?

Ambient air pollution is responsible for an estimated 4.2 million fatalities per year from stroke, lung disease, lung cancer, and acute and chronic respiratory disorders

Invisibly polluted Outdoor air is often referred to as Air Pollution. Air pollution is the contamination of air caused by the presence of compounds in the atmosphere that are hazardous to human and other living beings’ health, as well as to the environment and materials.

How many people are infected with Out-door Air pollution ?

With about 91 percent of the world’s population living in areas where air quality levels exceed WHO guidelines. According to World Health Organization (WHO) in the year 2021 outdoor  air pollution is responsible for an estimated 4.2 million fatalities per year from stroke, lung disease, lung cancer, and acute and chronic respiratory disorders (WHO, 2021)

What are the causes ?

Emissions from motor vehicles, solid fuel burning, and industry are some of the most prevalent sources of outdoor air pollution. Carbon monoxide, lead, nitrogen oxides, ground-level ozone, particle pollution (also known as particulate matter), and sulphur oxides are the six pollutants widespread in outdoor air and can impair human health and the environment. Ozone is formed at ground level when nitrogen oxides from automobile exhaust fumes react with sunlight to generate ozone, which can provoke asthma attacks.

How do you get infected with Air pollution ?

Outdoor air pollution has a significant impact on health, including exacerbation of pre-existing asthma and COPD, increased susceptibility to infection and sensitivity to allergens, and an increased risk of arrhythmia, ischemia, cardiac failure, and stroke.

Hazardous gases and microscopic particles are emitted by power plants, factories, and cars, which can enter deep into the lungs of youngsters and can damage them.

Site of infection:

Outdoor air pollution has been linked to heart attacks, asthma attacks, bronchitis, hospital and emergency room visits, lost work and school days, limited activity days, respiratory symptoms, and premature mortality in humans. Every year, millions of people die prematurely as a result of air pollution-related diseases and cancers.

Conclusion:

We can never decide which one of the both silent killers is more hazardous, but one thing’s for sure; both of them are horrible killers. Both of these are the unwelcomed invisible attackers. Following SOPs and playing your role for betterment is the necessity to keep yourself safe.
